Montoya and the Target Team Finish 14th at the Monster Mile

Dover, Del. (September 27, 2010) – The AAA 400 at the “Monster Mile” was one of the cleanest races ever run at the one-mile facility. The 400-lap event had just four cautions, two of which were for debris and the 19 laps under caution were the fewest at Dover in 13 years. Montoya and the Target team lined-up fifth and ran the green flag marathon race inside the top-15 for the majority of the day. When the checkered flag waved the No. 42 Chevrolet was credited with a 14th-place finish.

Montoya continued his streak of top-10 qualifying positions at over the weekend, qualifying his Target Chevrolet in the fifth position. This marks the 10th consecutive top-10 qualifying start for the team, beginning with Chicagoland in early July. It is also the longest running top-10 qualifying streak among NSCS drivers this season.

The No. 42 Target Chevrolet spent the first half of the 400-lap event running inside the top 10. Ever changing track temperatures and weather conditions started to affect the handling of the race car as the laps progressed. Montoya fought tight conditions early on, becoming extremely loose as the race progressed. The Target Chevrolet visited pit road a total of six times with three of those pit stops occurring under green flag conditions for fresh tires, fuel and adjustments. Drivers would run the last 105 laps of the race without a caution. Montoya was able to rally back from the 20th position on lap 353 to finish the race in the 14th position.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is heading to Kansas Speedway this weekend for the Price Chopper 400 presented by Kraft Foods. The race will air live on ESPN and radio stations affiliated with MRN on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1:00 pm (ET).
