Final Short Track Race of the Season Produces a 19th- Place Finish for the Target Team

Martinsville, Va. (October 24, 2010) – The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returned to Martinsville Speedway for the final short track race of the 2010 season. The No. 42 Target Chevrolet qualified in the fifth position and ran as high as fourth before brake problems plagued Montoya. The Target team would finish out the 500-lap event in the 19th position.

With three practice sessions and a strong qualifying effort in the books, Montoya and the Target team looked to better their best finish of third at the “paperclip” track. When the green flag waved, Montoya looked to conserve on his brakes and run a clean race at the track notorious for beating and banging. Within the first 25 laps, the concern over handling and brakes were radioed in. Adjustments were made throughout the race to help alleviate the handling concerns and with some pit strategy in place the No. 42 would spend the majority of the race up in the top-15. With 100 laps remaining, the brake problems increased and Montoya did his best to hang on to track position under a long green flag run. When the Tums Fast Relief 500 concluded the No. 42 Target Chevrolet was credited with a 19th-place finish.

“I really like racing at Martinsville. This is a fun track,” Montoya remarked. “We had some brake concerns early on and as the race went on I completely lost the front brakes. It’s frustrating but what can you do. We’ll move on and hope for better results at Talladega.”

Superspeedway racing returns to Talladega Superspeedway this weekend. The Amp Energy Juice 500 will run on Halloween, October 31 at 1:00 pm (ET). The race will air live on ESPN and radio stations affiliated with MRN radio.
