Montoya Qualifies Third for ARCA Finale at Iowa Speedway
NEWTON, Iowa (October 14, 2006) Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates driver Juan Pablo Montoya downshifted from superspeedways to short tracks today, qualifying the No. 4 Texaco/Havoline Dodge Charger third for tomorrow's ARCA RE/MAX Prairie Meadows 250 at Iowa Speedway.
After qualifying second in his first-ever stock car race in Talladega last weekend, Montoya will line up on the inside of row two (23.054 seconds/136.636mph) for ARCA's 250-lap (219-mile) season finale.
"I'm pretty satisfied with what we were able to do today," said Montoya of his lap around the 7/8 mile tri-oval. "Expectations are tricky. I thought coming into today, that getting a top-10 starting spot would be great- so qualifying third is fantastic. I can't complain. I do think though, that if I drove it a little bit harder in the turns on the first lap, I would have been able to gain some time. But that's what it was, and I didn't want to take that risk. I'm learning everyday, and we'll just keep moving forward."
Montoya ranked third of 20 drivers in the test at Iowa Speedway last month posting a speed of 132.967 mph. The Colombian, who will become the first Formula 1 driver to race full time in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series next year, signed with Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates in July.
Tomorrow's ARCA RE/MAX Championship Series Prairie Meadows 250 at Iowa Speedway will air LIVE on SPEED Channel at 2:30 pm ET.
