Juan Pablo Montoya finished 4th on the final race at Fontana, and 4th respectively on the Championship. Juan wants to thank the fans, the team and his sponsors on his open wheel comeback, and from now he is preparing for 2015 season where he will come back stronger than ever.

  • Juan Pablo Montoya qualified the No. 2 Verizon Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet in the second position after posting a two-lap average of 217.621 mph during the Friday afternoon qualifying session.
  • With a fast Verizon Chevy, Montoya jumped out to an early lead on lap one in Saturday night’s MAVTV 500 and led 29 of the first 33 laps. The former series champion looked to have one of the fastest cars on track despite having to deal with a tight-handling condition.
  • Early in the event it was discovered that the weight-jacker on the No.2 Chevy had malfunctioned, compounding the condition. Race strategist, Jon Bouslog, called his driver down pit road at lap 34 for four fresh Firestone tires, fuel and an adjustment to the front wing.
  • Bouslog and the Verizon team continued to make adjustments to the front wing on subsequent pit stops in an effort to stay ahead of the changing track conditions.
  • Throughout the first three pit stops of the event, Montoya continued to cycle back to the race lead, eventually leading a race-high 85 laps.
  • Despite the ill-handling condition, Montoya was able to keep his Verizon Chevy toward the front of the field during the 250-lap event, crossing the finish line in the fourth position.
  • With his fourth-place finish, Montoya secured fourth place in the final 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series standings, setting himself up for another strong run in 2015.
  • Montoya also scored a series-high 342 points on the ovals during the 2014 season.
  • With a strong return to the Verizon IndyCar Series in 2014, Montoya earned one win, eight top-five finishes and one Verizon P1 Pole Award this season.
  • At Sunday night’s INDYCAR Championship Celebration, Montoya was also named the Fan Favorite Driver of the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series.
